Marjorie Wohlgemuth Campbell Scholarship
Marjorie (Wohlgemuth ’58) Campbell and her husband, Ken, had always planned to remember Houghton University in their wills. After Marjorie passed in 2010, Ken made a gift to the college in the form of the Marjorie Wohlgemuth Campbell Scholarship—a memorial from husband to wife.
Marjorie and Ken believed in taking care of others, loving and serving God over money. The two met on a blind date in Virginia after a job opportunity brought Marjorie there. They were married and made their new home in Virginia though Marjorie held Houghton close to heart.
Marjorie and Ken made the occasional visit to Houghton University. Ken recalls riding his bike around the Houghton community and fellowshipping with friends of the community at Houghton Wesleyan Church.
“Marjorie loved and spoke praises of Houghton University. She was always interested in the school’s happenings and encouraged any young student to attend Houghton,” Ken said.
When Marjorie passed away, Ken continued to receive communications from Houghton University. He learned he could make a qualified charitable distribution from his Individual Retirement Account. Subsequently, Houghton helped him set up the Marjorie Wohlgemuth Campbell Scholarship allowing him to honor his wife during his lifetime.
Through the Marjorie Wohlgemuth Campbell Scholarship, Ken was able to make a memorial to his beloved Marjorie and assist undergraduate students at Houghton to access a high-quality Christ-centered education.
“I am happy, pleased, and thankful to honor my wife in such a way at Houghton University,” Ken said.
